Vario Pro is a full variometer for gliding, paragliding and soaring flight. Climb and sink read straight from the watch's barometric pressure sensor — never GPS, so there is no lag and no phantom climb from a wandering satellite fix. A large climb readout and a segmented tape show the instantaneous rate at a glance, while a 20-second average tells you how a thermal is really working.
Audio climb and sink tones let you fly heads-up, silent only in a narrow band around zero. On most watches the pitch rises and the beeps quicken as the lift strengthens, with a low tone for sink; on a watch with a speaker, such as the fenix 8, it is a double beep for lift and a single beep for sink, each coming faster as the air gets stronger. Vario › Test plays the whole range on the ground. Vario Pro also records your flight with its GPS track, and can show altitude as flight levels alongside metres and feet. A Response setting (Fast / Medium / Slow) trades a steadier reading against a quicker one.
